Back Injury Personal Injury Settlement Amount

by Adam
(New York)

A little over year ago I got into a car accident and suffered a back injury. I was driving in New York City and a truck hit me from the back while i was at a stop sign.

It took me almost a year to get my final personal injury settlement amount of $10,000. But the lawyers took 40% of it so I was left with only $6,000. I don't think my final settlement amount was that much considering my injury but I was glad it was finally over. I was so tired of dealing with the lawyers and was really happy with anything I got.

Injured in a car crash
by: MrDarryk

I was injured to the point of having to have back surgery, which is a procedure called L5/S1 Laminectomy TLIF. I was unaware of any settlement? Is this something natural? but from what I have seen on the videos I will be in allot of pain.

Drunk Driving Accident
My Life Ruined by 9 Time Drunk Driver

by: Anonymous

5 years ago I was in a car accident with a drunk driver.

I was in the back passenger seat with my seat belt. There was a blizzard and my friend was going 30 mph. We were hit by a 9 time drunk driver who hit us head on. I was knocked unconscious.

X-rays and CT's found I had trauma fracture in spine with multiple fractures horizontal and vertical, severed liver, lacerations all over my face. I was in the hospital for 9 days and released to my daughters for 24/7 care.

I did several therapies only to make things worse. A year and half later I did a CT of my upper back and found T8 & T9 smashed for a whole year and half without noticing

But I'm in a lot of pain. I've had a total of 5 surgeries now and the auto insurance took me off their insurance after 2 years. They said I was "faking". How can you fake smashed bones??

So now I'm waiting until 25th of this month to see if my auto insurance and health insurance agree on a settlement. If only to pay me back all I payed for medical bills and put me back on their insurance

They've taken every penny to my name. I had to break into my 401k and and pay big time penalties.

I was told by serval specialist that this this will be my life and only worse with the injuries. Surgery only made me worse. I have to take relief 100 mg morphine, 10 mg dilduid,10 mg Valium .

I was newly married shortly after my car accident and this has caused huge marriage issues. I have been diagnosed with severe depression. This guy stole this vehicle in which someone left keys in. He has 13 misdemeanors, 7 felonies 1 while escaping prison.

This guy has ruined my life physically and mentally and gets out this may . I really need some advice and my lawyer has put me through 3 people in his firms. But he never knew what others did for me when we had to go to court.

I didn't like that so then I find out today he didn't file stuff properly so things didn't get done right in this case. But he bragged about how he was going to Mexico on vacation. He told me my auto insurance and health insurance is deciding on this settlement and he'll have a drink with them

While he's on vacation and he said I hope you agree on this agreement. I didn't think that the lawyer was professional . My husband sees me declining and is very worried . Please help with advice.

He said "It took me almost a year to get my final personal injury settlement amount of $10,000. But the lawyers took 40% of it so I was left with only $6,000." $10,000 not $100,000.

$100,000
by: SJK

If you are telling it correct, $100,000 is very low. However, your lawyer may be dealing with an insurance policy limit and that is all there is. Before agreeing on a settlement, make sure your lawyer has all information about amounts of insurance available to you. Make sure he performs an asset check of the responsible folks who caused your injury. If the lawyer is not forthcoming with you, do not hesitate to obtain a second opinion. It is only your life and your financial planning that is at stake.

hit from the back at a light
by: Anonymous

that does seem very low. but if you didn't have any drs. visits ,therapy, surgery etc I am sure the money was enough for pain and suffering. I was hit and racked up $60,000 in medical bills, 3 back surgeries 8 months apart and months of pain management. the lawyer is saying $100,000 but I think that is crazy too low.

Very Low

You must have went back to work without therapy etc... That was a very low settlement.
